Join us for this beautiful string orchestra program, opening with George Walker’s expressive chamber work Lyric for Strings, written after the death of the composer’s grandmother while he was still a student at the Curtis Institute of Music. The concert will feature soloist Eric Kutz, Professor of Cello at the University of Maryland, performing one of Haydn’s masterpieces, Cello Concerto in C Major. The program will conclude with the stunning Sunrise Mass by Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo, written for string orchestra and chorus. The powerful work evolves and changes in sound, and is a metaphor for a spiritual journey.
