Capital City Symphony is an auditioned volunteer orchestra.

Dues are $100 a season. Payment plans and scholarships are available depending on need.

AUDITIONS

We recently completed our scheduled auditions for the 2026–27 season. If you’re interested in joining Capital City Symphony, please submit the CCS Audition Request Form. We hold auditions on a rolling basis throughout the year and will keep your information in mind for future opportunities. We are still seeking trombonists and bassists.

PREPARE FOR YOUR AUDITION

Please prepare 2 contrasting selections:

  • A lyrical piece that demonstrates good musical style

  • A piece that showcases your technical ability

Each of the two selections should be at least five minutes long and should be a complete movement of a concerto, sonata or etude from which the audition proctors may choose a selection. Please bring with you copies of all music that you plan to play at the audition.

  • You will also be asked to sightread a piece of orchestral literature.

  • Please be prepared to play a selection for any auxiliary instrument that you can play.

  • Auditions last between 7 and 10 minutes.

REHEARSALS AND PERFORMANCES

Rehearsals and performances are usually held at the Atlas Performing Arts Center.

  • Rehearsals are usually on Thursday evenings, from 7:30-10:00 pm.

  • Most performances take place on Sundays.

  • Dress rehearsals are usually the Saturday of the concert weekend, from 10 am-1 pm.
