Special Projects

In addition to our regular season of symphonic concerts we also produce Special Projects. These include collaborations with local ensembles like Capital Hill Chorale. Our Holiday Concert and Sing-Along is produced in partnership with the Congressional Chorus and Atlas Performing Arts Center. This H Street NE tradition is so beloved by audiences that tickets sell out at lightening speed.

Capital City Symphony is a regular contributor to the INTERSECTIONS festival at Atlas Performing Arts Center. In 2014 musical world's collided as Capital City Symphony combined forces with artists including DC hip-hop legend Head Rock, MC Keith Christian, dancers from Da Originalz, and composer Liza Figueroa Kravinsky. Under the baton of John Devlin this supergroup produced a uniquely funky opening of INTERSECTIONS 2014. In 2015 John Devlin led us in a multi-media program featuring Les Illuminations by Benjamin Britten with tenor soloist Gran Wilson and video by Tim McLoraine

In 2010 we worked with the composer Charlie Barnett to create Symphony Lounge, a unique concert of chilled out lounge music for large ensemble. Our collaboration with Charlie Barnett also resulted in the Chaise Lounge recording, which is available to purchase as a CD or download from retailers like Amazon and iTunes.

In 2015 we began a partnership with Gourmet Symphony for Taste your Music. This groundbreaking community outreach program brings culinary concert programs to select food and service organizations in Washington, DC during summer 2015. The program features six culinary chamber concerts at three community service locations between June and August 2015, and a benefit concert with a full symphony orchestra in September for the public to celebrate the project’s success. Taste Your Music (TYM) events explore the intersection between music, food, and fellowship amongst DC residents of all socioeconomic backgrounds.
