Capital City Symphony is an auditioned volunteer community orchestra.

  • You want to make music in an environment which is challenging, yet positive with friendly colleagues in a beautiful performing arts center on bustling H St NE!


Auditions for our 2018-19 season will be held on Thursday, August 30, 2018 from 6pm-10pm at the Atlas Performing Arts Center. If we have additional instrumental needs we will hold more auditions during the season.


We are seeking permanent orchestra members for:

  • All string sections
  • Bass trombone
  • Bassoon/Contrabassoon
  • Sub list on all instruments

Other permanent openings may open up and will be announced in the late summer/early fall.

Please note that Capital City Symphony is expanding its activities in the 2018-19 season!

Please prepare 2 contrasting selections:

  • Lyrical piece that demonstrates good musical style
  • A piece that showcases your technical ability

Each of the two selections should be at least five minutes long and should be a complete movement of a concerto, sonata or etude from which the audition proctors may choose a selection. Please bring with you copies of all music that you plan to play at the audition.

  • You will also be asked to sightread a piece of orchestral literature.
  • Please be prepared to play a selection for any auxiliary instrument that you can play.
  • Auditions last between 7 and 10 minutes. 


  • Rehearsals and performances are usually held at the Atlas Performing Arts Center.
  • Rehearsals are usually on Thursday evenings, from 7:30-10:00pm.
  • Most performances take place on Sundays.
  • Dress rehearsals are usually the Saturday of the concert weekend, from 10am-1pm.
