2011-2012 Season Release
CAPITAL CITY SYMPHONY 2011-2012 Season
Washington, D.C. -- The Capital City Symphony, one of the original Arts Partners at the Atlas Performing Arts Center in NE Washington, D.C., is once again offering a full range of concerts for their 2011-2012 season, including their popular Family Concert in November and the FREE Community Carol Sing in December. Enjoy high-quality music at a fraction of the cost of other venues!
Their 44th season will highlight what the Capital City Symphony does best: make music approachable by presenting affordable concerts to the public, performing creative programs in a relaxed concert format, and providing appealing performance opportunities for talented amateur as well as professional players.
Every two years the Capital City Symphony features the winner of the Levine School of Music Cogen Concerto Competition. This year's winner, violinist Levon Jamgochian, will be the guest artist for the October 16th concert, playing the 1st movement from Lalo’s Symphonie Espagnole. This concert will also feature Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 and Two Songs from Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen.
There will be two performances of the popular Family Concert on November 20, with special guest Oran Sandel, well-known Washington Revels performer and long-time teaching artist. The orchestra's youngest audience members particularly enjoy the instrument petting zoo and interactive performance, as well as a special program book just for the younger set.
CCS will once again partner with the Congressional Chorus and the Atlas Performing Arts Center to offer two FREE Carol Sing Concerts on December 4th. This concert has become an H Street NE tradition!
In the spring, CCS will present its third choral collaboration with the Capitol Hill Chorale, featuring Mozart’s Requiem. The March 17 performance will be at the Capitol Hill Chorale’s venue, and the March 18 performance will be at the Atlas Performing Arts Center.
On May 13, Brahms Meets Jazz, as the Capital City Symphony closes out its 2011-2012 season with the Symphony No. 3 by Brahms, paired with Gershwin’s famous Rhapsody in Blue, with pianist Scott Beard.
In addition to its regular season concerts, the Capital City Symphony will be a part of the INTERSECTIONS Festival in February with Orchestra Meets the 21st Century, featuring the Capital City Symphony with an amplified small group of trumpet, guitar, bass, and percussion.
Tickets for children 16 and under are FREE for all Capital City Symphony main season concerts (October, November, March, May).
Unless otherwise noted, all concerts are held at the Atlas Performing Arts Center, 1333 H Street NE, Washington, DC. Tickets for most concerts are $16-$25 with discounts for seniors and students.
